Irish Banjo Skills
#1 Foundation Techniques
November 6 & 7
(see available times below)
This workshop covers the absolute basics for good banjo set up. Yes, it will suit complete beginners down to the ground, but it will also offer a refresher and check in for more established players. Having good foundations in place such as a correct pick hold and hand placement, is essential to a relaxed and flowing picking technique. I also explain in detail the importance of understanding and regulating your picking pattern. Picking determines so much in banjo playing - rhythm, tone, ornamentation, flow. An unregulated or haphazard picking pattern causes many of the banjo's problems such as missed notes, speed, jerky rhythm. Do you know what your right hand is doing? Many don't!
In this workshop I will present the ideal banjo set up, with tips and tricks to make everything easier and more relaxed. I also offer individual analysis and feedback in a group setting, allowing everyone to learn through observation and discussion.
