  How do I teach?

• I take an Irish tune and I break it down into multiple progressive video lessons

• I begin with the simple tune melody, and in a graduated and methodical fashion I add in simple ornamentation, chords and harmony, variations, slides, pull offs, hammer ons and all the fun stuff

• Along the way I advise on and demonstrate all of the essential techniques for Irish banjo playing, choosing tunes that create opportunities to focus on different aspects of the instrument

• The lessons progress through all levels of banjo playing, and the final tune each time is a wonderfully challenging, entertaining and virtuosic piece of music, full of style and ornamentation.

• All levels of musicianship are catered for from beginner to improver to expert.

What is Patreon? It is your opportunity to access a large library of video tutorial lessons, each one taking you on a journey from learning the very basic notation of the tune, to incrementally adding in ornamentation and variation, introducing you to the ideas and sounds of double stop chords and harmony, and ultimately challenging you with some expert level tricks and ornaments at the end. It’s methodical, simply explained, easily navigated and it will help you become the player you’ve always wanted to be.

Are there different levels of access?

Yes, I offer a range of different benefits and engagement levels. At the highest level you can send me regular videos of your playing progress and I will respond with advice, feedback and encouragement. This is a great way to provide practice accountability and ti know that you are continuing to improve and keep on the right playing track.
I also offer a monthly zoom hangout called The Banjo Session where we discuss technique, style, banjo gear and lots of other music related topics with me and with other professional musicians from the world of banjo and beyond.
I am available on Discord to chat about all aspects of banjo playing, and provide a welcoming and supportive platform for members to chat and share their banjo experience and practice journeys.
