How do I teach?I take an Irish tune and I break it down into multiple progressive video lessons
I begin with the simple tune melody, and in a graduated and methodical fashion I add in simple ornamentation, chords and harmony, variations, slides, pull offs, hammer ons and all the fun stuff
Along the way I advise on and demonstrate all of the essential techniques for Irish banjo playing, choosing tunes that create opportunities to focus on different aspects of the instrument
The lessons progress through all levels of banjo playing, and the final tune each time is a wonderfully challenging, entertaining and virtuosic piece of music, full of style and ornamentation.
All levels of musicianship are catered for from beginner to improver to expert.

To sit in a session and comfortably feel and play the natural swing of Irish music?This is the core of the learning opportunity on offer. Each month I take two Irish tunes and I break them down into their simplest components, helping you to master and memorise the basic tune first. Then I incrementally introduce ornamentation and variation, carefully pointing out any passages or picking challenges that need attention. Each tune has multiple versions available for you to learn, each one more exciting and challenging than the last. Every level of ability will be accommodated.
I use the Soundslice video platform which includes staff notation, TAB, ABCs and you can loop sections of the video if you're an ear learner. I want to challenge you with each tune to stretch your technique and improve at every step.

Every month you will can send me a full video of your playing, and I will respond with a top down analysis of your playing, and a video of suggested improvements or techniques. I'll help you improve in a graduated and structured manner.
